How detailed are you? How many questions do you ask? How many angles do you look at for one problem?
Recently I found I was asking myself these questions. Being in property management there are a million things going on at once. Sometimes I want to take the path of least resistance and not ask more questions. Later I find that by not taking the time to look at more angles leads to an uphill battle of challenges.
When taking on a new property I do the owner and property set-up. While reading through the documents I immediately start to ask questions in my mind to make everything as smooth as possible. As I have been setting up new owners a correlation of the same questions comes up. Finally, one day I took a step outside of my traditional path of thinking and came up with a checklist. Now every time we get a new owner I have a simple system to make sure everything is taken care of and all the questions are answered.
Do yourself a favor and take the extra moment when a problem arises to get more detailed in your mind. Even vocalizing your challenge to someone else may generate a new solution that will be worth it. Setting up a system for gathering the details can free up space in your mind to keep asking more questions.
